A. PRAYER
1. Universalis: www.universalis.com
This web site has the official Liturgy of the Hours for the Catholic Church. You can pray Morning Prayer, Midday Prayer or one of the other hours right at the computer. The readings of the Mass are available.
2. Sacred Space: www.jesuit.ie/prayer/
An excellent web site maintained by the Irish Jesuits. This site provides guides for prayer and is highly recommended.
3. Christian Meditation: www.wccm.org
Dom John Main, An English Benedictine, Developed a form of contemplative prayer based on the early church. This web site offers advice on how to develop a contemplative style of prayer.
4. Contemplative Outreach: www.centeringprayer.com
The Trappists monks developed another form of contemplative prayer based on a medieval treatise, “The Cloud of Unknowing”. This site offers advice on developing a contemplative style of prayer.
5. Parish Life: www.parishlife.com
Provides a variety of services for religious and lay leaders for ongoing adult faith formation, evangelization and community building. Also, provided ideas for promoting spiritual renewal in parishes.
B. CHURCH ORGANIZATIONS
1. The Vatican: www.vatican.va
This is the Vatican’s official website. It can be accessed in a variety of languages and many official texts are available in English.
2. Diocese of Paterson: www.patersondiocese.org
The official web site of the Archdiocese of Paterson. This site includes the many services provided by the diocese with links to parishes and the diocesan newspaper, The Beacon.
3. US Conference of Catholic Bishops: www.usccb.org
This is the official web site of the American Catholic Church. It offers a full text of the New American Bible, selected documents on a range of issues from liturgy (good catechetical material on the new Roman Missal published in 2002) to recent norms to address sexual abuse cases. There are also links to various dioceses throughout the site.
C. NEWS AND INFORMATION
1. ZENIT: www.zenit.org/english
An international Catholic news agency that provided a daily news report in English on Catholic matters.
2. National Catholic Reporter www.ncronline.org
The National Catholic Reporter reports, comments and reflects on the church and society. It strives for excellence in its publications, supporting a full honest and open exchange of ideas. It works out of a Roman Catholic tradition and an ecumenical spirit.
3. Catholic News Service: www.catholicnews.org T
The American Catholic news service with lead stories, news briefs and headlines. Many of these items appear in diocesan newspapers around the country.
4. ST. Anthony’s Messenger: www.americancatholic.org
This site has articles from St. Anthony’s Messenger Press available for download. In addition there are minute meditations and notes about the Saint of the Day. You can send Catholic Greetings from the site and shop for books and pamphlets published by the St. Anthony’s Messenger Press.
5. The Word Among Us: www.wau.org
This site has articles from The Word Among Us. This site has daily mediations usually based on the day’s scripture passage and articles on the Catholic Faith.
6. New Advent: www.newadvent.org
This site contains a list of the top 50 busiest Catholic web sites. It also had a Catholic encyclopedia with 11,000 entries.
D. THEOLOGY
1. Catholic Library: www.shc.edu/theolibrary
A fairly user-friendly site that is arranged by general theological topics. It contains numerous texts and links to church teaching and theological reflection. The material chosen is balanced and generally accessible to the ordinary Catholic
E. GENERAL
1. Mass Times: www.masstimes.org
Very handy site that provided the Mass schedules for Catholic Churches throughout the country. If you are planning a vacation or business trip, this site will help you get to Mass when you cannot attend Our Lady of the Valley.
2. Movies Reviews: www.usccb.org/movies/
Movie and Broadcasts that have been evaluated by USCCB Office for Films and Broadcasting according to artistic merit and moral suitability.
3. John Paul II Cultural Center: www.jp2cc.org
The Official web site of the John Paul II Cultural Center in Washington DC (near Catholic University). If you happen to be visiting the Capitol area, the cultural center is a must see. On the site, you will be able to take a tour of the center and view exhibits on display.
4. Disciples Now: www.disciplesnow.com
A Catholic web site devoted to teenagers.
